2026 Board candidates

3 Year Term

Bob Dumais

I joined the Cape Codgers in 2020, in the middle of Covid, when getting outside and back on a ball field meant more than any of us expected. I started out playing for Swain, and for the past six seasons I’ve been proud to wear the John Neill Painting/Courtyard uniform. I’ve also had the privilege of representing the league on the 50’s Tournament Team, which has given me a real appreciation for how well-regarded the Codgers are across the region.

Falmouth has been home for a long time. I’ve owned here since 1999 and live in town year-round, so I’m around in the off-season when much of the Board’s real work gets done: planning the schedule, handling registrations, sorting out field logistics, and getting ready for the next season.

I’ve served on the Board for the past three years, and I’m asking for your support to continue for another three-year term. During that time I’ve helped organize the player draft, working to build teams that are balanced and competitive so every game is worth showing up for. I’ve also been part of the conversation about how we structure our divisions, looking at whether a skill-based setup could give players of every ability a better experience on the field. Those are the kinds of practical questions I enjoy working on, and I want to see them through.

My goals for the next three years are simple. I want to keep the league fun, fair, and welcoming. I want to make it easy for new players to join and find the right fit. And I want to protect what makes the Codgers special: good softball, good people, and the friendships that keep us coming back every season.

This league gave me a lot when I joined during a tough time, and serving on the Board is my way of giving something back. I’d be grateful for your vote.

Gary MacDonald

Thank you for considering me for a three year term as a member of the Codger Board of Directors. I believe with my background and commitment to our vision, I can be of help as we evolve, grow and become an ever larger presence in Falmouth and the upper cape as a whole. The growing pains create a new set of challenges, especially maintaining the right balance of current member skills and interests, while accommodating more new players and the breadth of abilities they bring.

Codger Experience

I’ve been in the league for 6 years playing for Crabapples, with the last 3 years as head coach. I’ve been very active in playing indoor ball, and have participated in post season tournament ball. I lead the recruiting committee, which has contributed strongly to the doubling of the size of the league in the past 3 years to nearly 280 players, with the trend expected to continue. I also have become a right hand person to the Social Media Director, supplying him with game action footage and captioning, helping achieve over 100K views per month at peak.

Board Experience

I was on the BOD for the MassHire Springfield Career Center (aka Futureworks) for 5 years, with the last 3 years as President. I was an active member of the BOD for the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission for 11 years, as a member of the Greater Boston Employer Advisory Board. I’ve also contributed in Pack Leader roles for 100 Cub scouts in my town of Medfield, and as a volunteer for the Make-A-Wish foundation.

Career Summary

I developed a career over 40 years in the field of Human Resource Management and Organizational Development, rotating in the early years through many of the specialties, and spending roughly the last 20 years in EVP and SVP roles managing staffs globally and locally.
Companies I’ve worked for include Thomson Reuters, Associated Industries of Massachusetts, General Electric and Banyan Systems.

2 Year Term

Jeff Barnum

Hello, Codgers! I’m Jeff Barnum, and I’ve been a member of the Cape Codgers Senior Softball League since 2019. I was drafted by and played for Barn Pottery—now Mulcahy—which won the D2 championship in 2020 and 2022. For the past three years, I have played for Falmouth Bait and Tackle and helped Billy O’Connor create and coach the team. We formed it as an expansion team in 2024, when D2 returned to eight teams. I currently serve on the Board of Directors and have been the umpire coordinator for two years. I also umpire in D2 and play in the pool, Fall Ball, and off-season turf ball. Through playing and umpiring, I have met or gotten to know many of you. I value the camaraderie, fair competition, sportsmanship, inclusivity, and community service our league promotes.

Under our new bylaws, I am seeking a two-year term on the Board of Directors. I look forward to representing you and helping to manage and strengthen our league. Thank you for your consideration and support.

Scott Puopolo

I am the current president of the Cape Codgers and am seeking re-election to the Board of Directors for a two-year term. If elected, I plan to serve one additional year as president, followed by one year in an ex-officio role to support a smooth and successful transition to the organization’s next set leaders. I remain committed to ensuring that the Codgers retains its ethos of “Fun and Friendship” and creates a chance for everyone to participate in the pursuit of exercise, friendships, and civic engagement. The Cape Codgers have become my closest friends. I feel blessed to have found this organization 7 years ago and to have been able to play with and against a great group of people. I am living proof that the Codgers are a social community disguised as a softball league. I am grateful and honored to have led the organization for the last 3 years. I look forward to the opportunity to complete my 4th and final year as President as I support new energized leadership.

During my three years on the Board and as president, I have helped lead substantial growth in the league—from 165 players and 12 teams to nearly 270 players and 18 teams. I created and continue to run the Fall Ball program, developed and led the Turf Ball program during its first two years, and have managed the pool-player programs for both Division 1 and Division 2. I also facilitate Division 2 Spring League management, working with the Coach Liaison and coaches to address issues and support collaborative decision-making. I have been instrumental in facilitating additional opportunities for Codgers to play ball including coordinating games with Cape Cod Senior softball and other local softball player collectives.

Under my leadership, the Cape Codgers have strengthened relationships with the Department of Public Works and the Recreation Department, including negotiating a memorandum of understanding for field improvements and developing a Community Preservation grant proposal. The organization has restructured its bylaws, expanded transparency and Board participation, launched a successful competitive tournament, broadened sponsor visibility, introduced merchandising, and increased civic engagement through the Falmouth Holiday Parade and the expansion of the home run derby into a skills derby. I have also encouraged wider member involvement in field maintenance, the Code of Conduct Committee, rules development, and tournament planning.

I am a retired business executive, corporate strategy consultant and private equity firm operating partner. I have served on many for-profit and non-profit boards including 9 years on the Executive Board for the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, ending last year when my last term expired.

I am running for re-election to sustain the organization’s momentum, complete key initiatives, and help prepare the next generation of leadership. My proposed final year as president and subsequent year as an ex-officio Board member will provide continuity while giving the incoming president the support and institutional knowledge needed to succeed.

Mark Raider

Since joining the Board in 2022, I have served as its Secretary, keeping members informed of the Board’s work through monthly minutes. Working with my fellow Board members, I helped grow the league to 17 teams with approximately 270 players. Together we have set short- and long-term goals for the league grounded in our Mission and Vision Statements. Drawing on my legal experience, I led the effort to bring you our new Bylaws, which support the league’s growth and strengthens its governance. I’d like to continue that work, and I’d be grateful for your vote.

I joined the league in 2018 playing second base for Cape Cod 5, coached by Steve Senior, and have since played on many teams and have made lasting friendships. Our league is truly one of fun, competition and friendship.

Professional: Of Counsel, Brooks & DeRensis, Natick, MA. For nearly 50 years I practiced in estate and trust administration, estate planning, real estate, and business formation. I am admitted to all Massachusetts courts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and the U.S. Tax Court.

Community: 12 years on the Natick School Committee (2 as chair) and 12 years as a Natick Town Meeting member. I have vacationed in Falmouth since 1956 and have lived here full-time since 2010.

Service: U.S. Army Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, 1970–76.

Education: B.A., International Relations, Brown University (1969); J.D., Suffolk University Law School (1973); LL.M. in Taxation, Boston University School of Law (1974).

Frank Zuccarello

I have been a Cape Codger for the past 11 years and have enjoyed every minute. I have served on the Board of Directors since 2021 and currently serve as Vice President.

I believe in and support our league’s Mission and Vision Statements. This league has always been built on friendship, fun, and camaraderie, and it should remain that way. This is one of my top priorities if elected to serve the membership and the league.

I remember starting in the league in 2015 as a member of British Beer Company, playing at the Heights as one of six teams. That is when I started learning the Codger way: making friends and having fun.

The league has now grown to two divisions with 17 teams. We have come a long way, but we never lost the Codger way of making friends and having fun. I believe we still have room to grow the league in Upper Cape Cod. It will take dedication and focus of the Board of Directors to make it happen.

I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, and played a lot of soccer, Little League, and high school baseball. After graduating high school in 1966, I joined the United States Air Force and retired in Oct. 1997. I retired as Command Chief of the 102 Fighter Wing at Otis ANGB, MA.

After retiring, I worked for Edward Jones Investments as an Instructional Designer and trainer in St. Louis, Canada, and London. Retired in 2013 and now live in East Falmouth.

In 2021, I worked at Lawrence Junior High School as the Safety and Security Monitor and Substitute Teacher. Retired in 2024.

I hope you'll vote for me to represent you and the league next year.

Fred Pahl

I’m coming up on my third year with the Cape Codgers. When I first joined, I hadn’t played ball in 20 years, and I was a little nervous. But I was welcomed with open arms and plenty of support. What stood out to me most was that this support wasn’t just for me—it was there for everyone who came out to play. I was hooked!

My professional background started with a degree in art education. While in school, I supplemented my income by bartending, and that’s where I discovered my passion for the hospitality industry. That passion turned into a career spanning 35 years as a general manager.

Throughout my career, I oversaw daily operations involving food, beverage, and retail, managing teams of 30 to 100 employees and annual sales ranging from $3 million to $10 million.

At the end of the day, whether it’s in business or on the ball field, I love people. I enjoy being part of a team, supporting others, and helping create an environment where everyone feels welcome.

Ed Stake

I relocated to Cape Cod in 2020 and live at Monument Beach in Bourne.

My education includes a Bachelors and Master’s Degree.

I bring over 40 years of senior management experience, with a career spanning director-level roles in Security, Human Resources, Operations and Sales for New England with the Coca-Cola Company.

I started with Codgers four years ago on the urging of Hollis Engley. I’ve been fortunate to play alongside supportive teammates and players throughout the league. I have participated on two different teams and have been involved in the playoffs for two years with my current team Midas. A reliable glove, shaky bat, and I still love playing every inning!

I’ve actively engaged in various volunteer activities, the latest being “It’s Not Over Till It’s    Over” tournament.

This league is competitive for sure, but the real win has been the friendships and support throughout the league. It’s a community that shows up for each other, on and off the field.

If given the opportunity, I look forward to contributing value while upholding the league’s outstanding culture. I’m seeking a three-year term.

Thank you for your consideration.
